How to Make Your Nametag Pop at Networking Events
By Mary Clayton, Digital Marketing Manager
When you’re meeting people at a networking event or trade show, what is the first thing you notice as you introduce yourself? If you’re like 83% of people, you glanced for a nametag. Your nametag is one of the first impressions that someone has of you. You always want to have your best foot forward, and your nametag is the perfect place to start!
Make your tag easily visible. Put your tag on your right side so that when someone is shaking your hand their eye can easily follow the line of sight from your hand to your nametag. Make sure you display it in on your upper chest in an easy to see place.
Limit your nametag to necessary information only. This small space is meant to be an icebreaker, not the story of your life. Stick with a logo, your name, and only a small amount of information if the size allows. If there is more than one person with the same name in your company, be sure to include last names or initials on the nametag.
Think minimalist design. Make sure the name is what pops out at first glance. Limit bright backgrounds and cluttered text. Keep the font professional, well sized, and easy to read. Your nametag is not your business card (which you should always have at events), so don’t try to cram your email, phone, address, or social media networks on your nametag.
Keep it consistent. Your nametag is a branding opportunity. Make sure everyone in your organization has the same nametags. Have the most current logo on every nametag and be sure fonts and colors are consistent. When a person’s name changes, quickly reorder their tag with the updated name.
Don’t be afraid to shake up the traditional nametag! If your brand is fun, outgoing, and interesting make sure you reflect that in your nametag. You can use a fun font only if it’s easy to read. You can also step outside of the box with your nametag’s shape and do a round, oval, or even custom cut nametag.
